Dr Folorunso, Ayodeji Adekunle is a seasoned scholar, scientist and university teacher in the Department of Family, Nutrition and Consumer Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.

Research and Academic Work

In a country where one-third of children under five are subjected to stunted growth due to inadequate nutrition, while adults also struggle with a deficiency of micronutrients, Dr Folorunso stands as a beacon of hope by demonstrating and encouraging the use/consumption of Nigerian local foods to meet the nation’s nutritional needs and solve our nutritional problems. At the heart of his work is a simple and powerful message: You are what you eat.

Against this backdrop, he has continued to share research backed insights on correct nutrition through various platforms including the Journal of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (JAAT) FUTMINNA and Nigeria Journal of Applied Arts and Sciences (NIJAAS) Federal Polytechnic, Bida. He has also written a book, Nutritional Management of Diseases and Health Conditions, where he shares practical insights on how to maintain healthy living by eating right.

Contributions and Recognitions

A nutritionist of repute, Dr Folorunso served as pioneer Acting Head of Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, Nigeria from 2011 to 2014. In this role, the Association of Nutrition and Dietetics Students honoured him on two separate occasions for his contribution to the promotion of young nutritionists. This period also served to highlight his resourcefulness as he juggled multiple roles at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida with his Ph.D programme at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

His published journal articles include Nutritional Assessment of Lactating Mothers in Rural & Urban Communities in Osun State (A Case study of Ife-Odan village & Iwo town), published in the Nigeria Journal of Arts and Sciences (2008), Proximate Analysis and Frequency of Consumption of Local Snacks in Bida Metropolis, published in the Nigeria Journal of Arts and Sciences (2012), Effects of Different Processing Parameters on Proximate Composition and Sensory Qualities of Soymilk, published in the American Journal of Food Science and Nutrition Research (2015), Nutrition Hygiene Knowledge and Practices among Food Vendors in Bida Metropolis in Niger State, published in the International Journal of Science and Engineering Investigations, UK (2017), Proximate Composition and Sensory Qualities of Milk Produced from Five Varieties of Rice (Oryza sativa) published on Vibe and several others, together with dissertations and conference proceedings.

Private Life

Dr Folorunso is blessed to work in an environment that is conducive to productivity and with empowering teams that appreciate his work. When he’s not teaching, writing or conducting research, you can find him engaged in record keeping, computer operation and sporting activities. He is a happy husband and a proud dad of two children.
